Benin is considered the birthplace of Voodoo. The town of Ouidah is famous for being the spiritual center for this false religion and the majority of the nation’s citizens practice this and other ethnic religions.

More than one-third of the population lives below the poverty level. It is ranked 134th out of 169 nations on the human development index (a combination of life expectancy, literacy, education, and living standards).

President Yayi Boni (elected in 2006) is from a Muslim family but put his faith in Christ and is now an evangelical Christian.

PRAYER

Pray for President Boni to seek the Lord as he serves the people.

Ask the Lord to protect him from pride and corruption and give him wisdom and strategies in leading Benin out of poverty. (Isaiah 55:6)

Pray for the strongholds of Voodoo to be torn down.

Ask the Lord to shine the Light of Christ into Benin, dispelling the darkness. (II Corinthians 10:4; II Corinthians 4:4)

Pray for a great harvest of souls with multitudes putting their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Romans 10:9)

The government has objected to being on this list, citing a history free of terrorism. But experts are concerned that might be changing. Pray for the government of Kazakhstan to do everything they can to prevent terrorism and keep their nation safe from terrorist group activity. Pray for Muslims in Kazakhstan to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel. Pray for Christians to continue to faithfully pray for their nation and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Hindu "holy man" Sathya Sai Baba died in April 2011. He was considered a "god" by his followers, who numbered in the millions. They believe he healed himself and was reborn in 1993. They are now praying for his resurrection. Ask the Lord to speak to the hearts of all those in India who have put their hope in men and false gods. Pray for their blind eyes to be opened to the truth of Jesus Christ. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout India. Petition the Lord to tear down the strongholds of Hinduism and set free those held captive by this religion. Plead with the Lord for a great harvest of souls in this nation. (Isaiah 42:6,7)
