Benin is considered the birthplace of Voodoo. The town of Ouidah is famous for being the spiritual center for this false religion and the majority of the nation’s citizens practice this and other ethnic religions.
More than one-third of the population lives below the poverty level. It is ranked 134th out of 169 nations on the human development index (a combination of life expectancy, literacy, education, and living standards).

President Yayi Boni (elected in 2006) is from a Muslim family but put his faith in Christ and is now an evangelical Christian.
PRAYER
Pray for President Boni to seek the Lord as he serves the people.
Ask the Lord to protect him from pride and corruption and give him wisdom and strategies in leading Benin out of poverty. (Isaiah 55:6)
Pray for the strongholds of Voodoo to be torn down.
Ask the Lord to shine the Light of Christ into Benin, dispelling the darkness. (II Corinthians 10:4; II Corinthians 4:4)
Pray for a great harvest of souls with multitudes putting their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Romans 10:9)
