EAST TIMOR, SOUTHEAST ASIA
Although East Timor is a mostly "Christian" nation, many of the traditions are not. In July 2011, a long running conflict between rival gangs near the capital city was settled with a dance, a prayer, and sacrifice of a goat and a pig. This ceremony, known as the Tara Bandu, is usually led by the person who is in charge of the "spiritual performance" of the area and is believed to be "close to the ancestors." This person, called the Lulik Nain, takes part of the sacrificed animal and offers it in a sacral house, calling the ancestors to participate, and declares a magic formula, complete with a curse.
Pray for this and other animistic and demonic practices to be exposed for what they are.
Ask the Lord to dethrone the little-g gods in East Timor and bring His rule and reign.
Pray for the people of this nation – especially Christians – to be discerning and realize who they are worshipping.
Pray for the Lord to bring lasting peace to East Timor by changing the hearts of the people as they put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Isaiah 42:8)
